I'm writing wholeheartedly to recommend Devta Kidd for her remarkable tenure as Bloomington's Innovation Director from 2019-2023. Her strategic leadership transformed our city's capabilities, fostering excellence in service delivery while driving innovative change.

Devta founded a transformative program focusing on process improvement, fostering an innovative culture, and preparing our organization for the future. Her clear vision and measurable results advanced our operations.

She adeptly advanced the Director of Innovation role, transforming it into a valued internal resource. By the end of her tenure, departments – from cabinet leaders to front line workers – sought her guidance, training, and support to optimize and/or reimagine processes.

Devta not only met but exceeded expectations when challenged to leverage departmental budgets, securing grants that empowered 22 employees across 13 departments eventually to lead their own impactful projects.

The ambitious three-year leaf-management initiative engaged thousands, resulting in significant cost savings and a substantial carbon footprint reduction, a testament to Devta’s commitment to sustainable solutions.

Collaborating with our public safety departments and community partners on alternative 911 call responses showcased Devta’s dedication to community impact. The recommendations from that effort will enable our public safety response to adapt to our changing environment for years to come.

Devta’s contributions redefined norms while also aligning smoothly with our community’s values. Her leadership propelled Bloomington towards innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. In summary, Devta Kidd's strategic approach to transformation makes her an asset to any organization. Her ability to drive change and inspire innovation is exceptional. I wholeheartedly endorse her.

I first met Devta when she interviewed for the position of Director of Innovation with the City of Bloomington. From that day, she has done nothing but impress me. Innovation is a hard thing to direct but I have found a lot of wisdom in how she could take a step back, outline the known, establish a baseline, and then re-imagine how things could be. She has made a ton of connections to help the city and on a personal note, she is easy to work with even on controversial topics. Her desire to help others and improve the status quo are only surpassed by her professionalism and quality of work. If you want to make people or processes better then I highly recommend Devta!

Adaptability / Effective Leadership

Devta’s ability to pivot when faced with challenges is unlike anyone I have previously worked with. There have been instances that could have been detrimental to projects yet she was able to persevere and make spontaneous decisions that were positively impactful. These informed transitions allowed the projects to not only continue but resulted in positive outcomes that exceeded expectations.

Aside from her professionalism, Devta always leads with an optimistic positive attitude. I can say without hesitation this approach to completion of tasks motivated not only myself but others within the work groups she has led. Once again directly resulting in completion of tasks and goals on time and often under budget. More importantly this positive approach can directly be associated with the positive buy in and feedback received from both members of staff and the community who have benefited from the programs Devta has spearheaded.

I look forward to the opportunity to work and collaborate with Devta on projects in the future. Her infectious excitement for the work she is engaged will continue to motivate me as a leader to always maximize my own skillset in an effort to promote positive change. Devta is an excellent OD practitioner and in her time with Indiana University Health has made many positive contributions. Her ability to manage large scale projects and ensure there is strong collaboration between internal and external stakeholders is admirable. Although healthcare was not her primary area of expertise, she quickly established credibility as a leader and solution-oriented.

Some of her most notable areas of expertise were in the design and execution of our organizational employee opinion survey, and team interventions. In each area Devta consistently demonstrated a high degree of knowledge and skill which resulted in significant outcomes and increased performance.

Devta’s dedication to continuous improvement at the personal, departmental, and organizational level generates innumerable positive impacts on the processes and people within the City of Bloomington. With a strong process improvement background fine-tuned in project management she facilitated a data-driven Innovation Team pilot project. Her adaptability and expertise in change management ensured that solutions were both sustainable and cost-efficient. Devta was an enormous asset to MM. Devta is a thoughtful professional that is still able to interject fun and humor into the workplace. I was fortunate to work with her on several organizational programs, and benefitted from additional programs that she initiated and led from concept through implementation.
